If you read my previous blog post "Home", you'll understand why 2017 was such a huge step for me, if you haven't yet, you'll want to if you really want to understand where I'm coming from.

2017 taught me a lot about of myself. How I love, how I hurt, how I heal, what I love and dislike, how to put names on emotions I can't understand, what I'm truly capable of. It has literally been a year of focusing on ME and being ME unapologetically.

Prior to this 2017, I hadn't really gone out much because my previous S.O. felt strongly against partying, music festivals, concerts. So you can only imagine how much I began going out after the relationship had ended, I literally "started wearing less and going out more". Of course friends and family had stuff to say, but they only saw what they could see, a girl constantly going out. What they didn't see was that this girl going what finally able to do what SHE wanted to do without permission, the liberation she felt of being able to have fun without fearing "but he didn't want me to.." "he said I couldn't.. or else".

I've had more stories to tell and met more people in 2017 than I've had in the past 5 years. Let's recap.

In 2017 I've:

1. Moved out on my own for the first time

2. Transferred to SJSU

3. Joined a sorority (woo go DZ!) and met like 60 new amazing women

4. Used a fake to get in a club for the first time ever

5. Turned 21 so I wouldn't have to use a fake anymore LOL

6. Saw/attended

-Soulquarius in February

-Coachella in April

-Chris Brown in May

-EDC & Idiot festival in June

-Manila Killa & Audiotistic in July

-Ashanti and Ja Rule, IAMSU & Audio on the Bay in September

-Gryffin in November

-Louis the Child, NGHTMRE & Kaskade in December

7. Went to one too many parties & one too many bars/clubs

8. Discovered so. much. fucking. music. Really, I mean I truly only used to listen to the radio and 2000s R&B and according to Spotify I've listened to 1,230 different artists and explored 44 genres.

8. Made so many new friends, lost a few, and rekindled some as well

Bottomline, I did a whole lotta gang shit in 2017, first club, first bar, first rave, first music festival. Though, no matter how much I went out I also made sure I knew when to say no when it came to responsibilities. I juggled my work, school, social life & well being pretty damn well considering this was my first year adulting and really putting myself out there. Not gonna lie though, the party scene is getting a little old for me already but I guess that's what happens when you squeeze 3 years of parties and events into one year LOL.

As of 2018, the forecast is looking a little cloudy for parties and clubs but still looking moderately clear for music events simply because seeing my favorite artists and being around people who share the same love for music forever fuels my energy (:

Fuck the bullshit, wear less, go out more, who cares what people say. Do whatever fuels your soul & energy as long as you have your priorities straight by the end of the day. We don't got time to live average, boring lives, live your best mf life always.

xoxo,

Cate
